During the team and all around competition, Shayla performed
her routines with great confidence. Her best performance came on bars, 15.550, which
placed her second behind teammate Nastia Liukin and allowing her to qualify to
the event finals held later in the week.
The rest of the evening went very well, beam (15.200), floor (14.900), and she
competed her new vault successfully,
yurchenko 1/2 , for a score of 14.700. With an all-around score of 60.350,
Shayla placed fifth in the all-around and

won the gold medal!

Event finals were held on Saturday afternoon where Shayla
qualified to the uneven bars in second place. She had
another stellar performance, catching all three releases and
hitting all her pirouette elements. With a small step on the
landing, Shayla scored a 15.400 which placed her in second place
with the silver medal behind Nastia (15.975).
